CINS Supports Transfer of Canadian-Scandinavian Studies journal to University of Alberta

Mar 29, 2022

Since 1983, the Association for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies in Canada has published the peer-reviewed journal Scandinavian-Canadian Studies. The journal publishes articles on a wide range of topics related to Scandinavian culture, with the “conviction that there is much to be learned from peoples of Scandinavia, not least by Canadians, who share a comparable geopolitical situation, not to mention social and cultural values.”

As has been the trend in academic publishing, the journal moved online and became open access In 2005. When the editorship of the journal transferred to Dr.Natalie Van Deusenit became necessary to move hosting from the University of Victoria to the University of Alberta, where there would be support for ongoing editorial activities. There was, however, a startup cost in moving the journal from UVic to UAlberta, along with the ongoing cost for publication support.

A CINS grant to the journal of $20,000 will provide the financial support to hire a research assistant and a French translator. Their ongoing work will enable the move to the University of Alberta Library OJS system. The work of transferring and publishing the journal is ongoing and CINS remains a strong supporter.
